SEANATION CUP OFFSHORE FAQ

SEANATION CUP OFFSHORE regatta →
  1. WHAT IS SEANATION CUP OFFSHORE?
This is a 400-mile regular regatta for yachtsmen who already have ocean navigation experience or want to gain it. The regatta is held in the waters of the Canary Islands, with a start in Tenerife or Lanzarote.
  2. HOW M ANY PARTICIPANTS ARE THERE?
Usually, no more than 10 teams participate in SEANATION CUP Offshore.
  3. HOW MANY REGATTAS HAVE THERE ALREADY BEEN?
One. The third will take place in 2025.
  4. WHY DOES THE NAME OF THE REGATTA HAVE THE PRESCRIPTION OFFSHORE?
The regatta runs non-stop for about 400 nautical miles, about 4 full days in the Atlantic Ocean, in entirely different weather conditions, day and night. This is comparable to a full-fledged offshore ocean voyage, despite the actual distance from the Canary Islands during the race not exceeding 50 miles.
  5. I HAVE EXPERIENCE IN YACHTING, BUT I PREFER, SO TO SAY, “SEALING.” THAT IS, I KNOW TO RELY ON THE DECK AND ENJOY THE VIEWS, THE AIR, AND THE WORK OF THE REST OF THE TEAM MEMBERS. BUT THIS IS A REGATTA... SO PERHAPS I SHOULD NOT GO?
Seanation CUP Offshore is a sporting event and a fairly strenuous trek, not a cruise. It requires dedication, constant work by the crew, and night watches. For relaxation, it is better to choose another option, for example, the AFR - our large annual regatta in Croatia.
  6. WHAT EXPERIENCE DO I NEED TO PARTICIPATE?
Experience of independent offshore trips is not required; SEANATION CUP Offshore may well be your first such experience. But on every team, there should be the following roles: helmsman, tactician/navigator, forecastle, trimmer/pianist, and clews. Mentally try on all these roles; if one of them seems clear and feasible to you, then you are the one who has a reason to go to Seanation CUP Offshore. No, you don't have to be a perfect professional. Yes, you must understand what kind of rope you have in your hands and why it is needed.
  7. CAN IT BE DANGEROUS?
Maybe, like any other sailing trip. The small distance from the Canary Archipelago, quite within reach of the coastguard, plays in favor of safety. But it is necessary to keep in mind fresh winds, high waves, racing rhythm, and crew fatigue - all this adds complexity and provokes mistakes. However, all participants have 24-hour communication with the regatta organizers and can request advice or assistance.
  8. WHAT BOATS PARTICIPATE?
Various sizes, from 45 to 56 feet; size handicap applies. All yachts have gennakers.
  9. WHAT IS THE PLAN FOR THE REGATTA?
Boats are accepted on Saturday, training day on Sunday, start at dawn on Monday, finishes last from Thursday evening until mid-day on Friday. On Friday evening there is an awards ceremony.
  10. WHAT ABOUT THE WEATHER, WHAT EQUIPMENT IS NEEDED?
The waters of Seanation CUP Offshore are usually quite warm: 16-25 degrees, wind 10-30 knots. Rain is possible, but unlikely. You will need a set of membranes top + bottom, thermal underwear top + bottom, fleece jacket, waterproof shoes, hat, sunglasses and LOTS of SPF 50 sunscreen.
  11. I NEED TO APPLY FOR A SCHENGEN VISA TO GO TO THE REGATTA, CAN YOU HELP ME WITH THIS?
Yes, we will provide you with all the necessary documents no later than 60 days before the start of the regatta.
  12. HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO PARTICIPATE?
Each team has its own cost since pricing is the captain's prerogative. The figure depends on how many sailors the cost of the boat is divided into, whether the ship's cash is included in this amount, and so on. Usually, sailors chip in 1200-1500 euros for everything. But you will find out the exact cost of participation by discussing it with a specific captain. In some cases, if you are an experienced and classy sailor, the captain may offer you special conditions.
  13. WHAT OTHER COSTS WILL THERE BE?
Usually around 100 euros for the ship's cash and about 50 euros as your share of the refundable deposit. But you need to discuss this issue with your captain, as all teams have completely different views on the necessary purchases.
  14. CAN I BRING A CHILD WITH ME?
Seanation CUP Offshore is not a family cruise, but if we are talking about a fully functional teenager, then why not? Especially if the teenager is involved in sailing. Please contact your captain with this question.
  15. WHAT ABOUT THE LIVING CONDITIONS ON THE YACHTS?
All boats have double cabins, several latrines and showers, a full galley, hot water, and a refrigerator with a freezer compartment.
  16. WHO WILL BE MY CAPTAIN?
Write to us about yourself, what you can do, and what experience you have, and we will connect you with the captains with vacant positions on their teams.
